A True Account Of Losing 26 lbs In 6 Weeks

This is an account of how an elderly friend embarked on a voluntary weight loss diet coupled with an involuntarily imposed exercise regimen.

My friend’s story: I am in my mid 70’s and for the last 15 years have accumulated an extra 20% over my previous “normal” weight.
As I’m not a big guy that means an increase of nearly 30lbs (14kg)

Usually quite an active sort, but the last 10lbs added seemed to tip the balance and now walking upstairs, sometimes, required more effort than I thought it should.

So I started to eat a low-carb diet. For dinner lots of salad to fill the plate (and stomach), hard-boiled eggs and lean meat, etc. Cereals for breakfast instead of fried eggs.
Lost 5lbs but, if faltered, put it back on just as quick, if not quicker, than it came off.

Google Knows What You Think…

Probably because I searched for alternative types of weight loss diets I started to see posts of celebrities eating plates full of delicious food while supposedly losing weight by using the Intermittent Fasting For Weight Loss Diet. So I looked into it and decided to give it a go.

All was going well.
We have a number of dogs, so I requested my dinner to be served as soon as our dogs had been fed (my job), at around 4:15 – 4:30 in the afternoon and after this meal I would start my fasting period.

Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent Fasting

Break your fast at 9 a.m. and eat, with restraint, until 5 p.m. After 5 p.m. refrain from eating and drinking anything except water.
 Important: keep well hydrated

Fasting time means NO food.

Only water.
You may adjust your fasting time to be longer if you wish.
Shorter doesn’t work.

Poor old dear had to spend more than 6 weeks in bed while hubby was up and down stairs like a yo-yo.
Goal achieved though. Happy

Eat well but eat quality

What I learnt while dieting this way was you must remember you are on a diet and the speed at which you lose weight is proportional to your effort and the discipline you exert. So… Cut out the junk food.

As someone who worked and lived in Asia for a long time I still ate a lot of rice (love fried rice still). While on the diet I swapped any rice with potato. As a long time beer drinker I omitted beer from my diet as well (beer drinking time was well into fasting time anyway, so was a no-no).

The magic ingredient

Excercise

I had only been on this Intermittent Fasting Diet for a few days when an unfortunate accident happened to my wife. She fell and broke her hip in two places.
After an operation and the insertion of a titanium plate holding her together, she was discharged but because of her age and the onset of osteoporosis, she was strictly confined to total bed rest for six weeks.

We have very high ceilings and a large crawl space and therefore a long staircase.
You don’t need a university degree to realise that the six weeks needed to achieve my goal was directly linked to constantly attending to “The Patient” at the top of the stairs.
All in all, a good outcome all around. Wife is mobile again and I have kept my weight down with no ‘bounce back’. And having the odd beer again. 🙂 🙂
